Daniel Proietto

Daniel Proietto was born in Argentina where he studied classical ballet with the school of Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.  

Proietto has been engaged with several companies since the age of 16, among them Ballet Santiago de Chile, Ballet del Teatro Argentino and the Contemporary Ballet of Teatro San Martín. From 2003-2006 he was one of the most featured dancers with Carte Carte Blanche - the Norwegian national company of contemporary dance.   In 2013 the Norwegian National Ballet created the position “Guest Artist” for Proietto, one of the first rare occations where a contemporary dancer is given such status with a Ballet Company.   

Proietto worked internationally as freelance dancer and choreographer since 2007 and toured extensively  to venues such as New York City Center, BAM, National Theatre of Chaillot, Bunkamura, London Coliseum and Sadler’s Wells. Proietto has created and staged works for choreographers such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and director and choreographer Alan Lucien Øyen. Proietto has famously collaborated with Russel Maliphant on several creations - most notably the choreography AfterLight, (2009), a piece which received great international critical acclaim for both Proietto and Maliphant.

As choreographer Proietto created several works for the Norwegian National Ballet, as well as for the Vienna State Ballet and the Cuban National Ballet, among others.  His work has been featured in Wim Wenders “Cathedrals of Culture”. Proietto has also has been filmed and photographed for several projects by legendary director and fashion photographer Nick Knight.   

Proietto has won an array of accolades for his work both as a dancer and choreographer, among them the 1st Prize at the “21st International Choreographers Competition” in Hanover, Germany, for his choreographic debut; the UK Critic’s Award for “Outstanding Dancer”; the “Best Dancer of the Year” by Dance Europe – ranking 1st among 170 leading figures in the international scene, and a “Olivier Award” nomination for his solo AfterLight by Russell Maliphant.     

Proietto has been working as dancer and actor with winter guests since the company's inception in 2005, as well as collaborating creatively with director and choreographer Alan Lucien Øyen on several of his projects and commissions.
