Opera and musicals

Pre-premiere panel discussions for operas and musicals

A week or so before opera premieres and the main season musical, we hold a panel discussion on the Small Stage which is free to attend. At these events, team members like the director, conductor, soloists and sometimes guest experts discuss the piece, its process and its themes. The panel moderator is Göteborg Opera’s dramaturgist, Göran Gademan. Many of the discussions are held in English, or a mix of Swedish and English.

Free admission with ticket.

See the relevant performance page for more information about upcoming panel discussions.

Opera introductions

One hour prior to each Main Stage opera, we offer an introduction (in Swedish) to the evening’s performance. Introductions take about 20 minutes, and are presented on the Small Stage. They are popular, so come in time, since there is limited seating which can fill up quickly.

Introductions are free to attend – your ticket is enough for entry.

Open rehearsals

A couple of weeks before GöteborgsOperans Danskompani has a new world premiere on the Main Stage, we invite you to an open rehearsal on the Main Stage. Experience the dancers rehearsing creations still in the process of coming together, working with the choreographers, and afterwards hear them talk about the process and their thoughts behind each piece. Information about upcoming open rehearsals are on each performance page.

Free admission, but seats must be booked in advance.

Introductions

Verbal introductions

One hour before each dance performance on the Main Stage, you can attend an introduction to the show. Introductions take about 20 minutes and are held on the Small Stage. They are popular, so don't be late, because they fill up quickly! They are free to attend as long as you have a ticket to the evening’s performance.

Physical introductions

Learn more and gain deeper insight into the language of dance!

At GöteborgsOperans Danskompani’s physical introductions we’ll help you to gain a better understanding of the performance you are going to see. We test different choreographic methods and movements, which you’ll recognise later on stage, so you’ll gain a more physical, personal connection to the performance.

Physical introductions are led by dancers from GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and are built around participation. Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended, but not essential.

Free admission with a ticket, limited places available. We meet in the foyer, 10 minutes before the start time.

The format is created and practiced by the MA Contemporary Dance Education (MA CoDE) at Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main. With the aim to remain in close collaboration and to foster further development of the format it is handed over by Prof. Ingo Diehl and Anja Bornsek for facilitation purposes to GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.
