Before your visit
What time should I arrive?
Please note that at the moment there is a large, ongoing city infrastructure project around the opera house which affects ease of access and parking locations. We advise you plan for a longer journey than expected. Learn more about how this project affects access to the house here.
If you are not going to collect your ticket here in the box office (where sometimes there is a queue), you may arrive about 30 minutes before the performance begins. But we invite you to arrive earlier to have time to unwind, enjoy the buzzing atmosphere in our foyer, have something tasty to eat or drink, or perhaps order some refreshments for the intermission.
Introductions (from 3 November)
If you would like, we also offer introductions to our opera and dance performances (note: usually presented in Swedish) which begin 1 hour before the performance begins, and are free if you have a ticket. Please note that we are currently only presenting digital introductions, which you may watch on the relevant show page. We will recommence introductions on the Small Stage from 3 November.
What happens if I arrive late?
When the performance has begun, the doors are closed and you are not allowed to enter until the next break in the performance. Make sure you leave for the Opera house with time to spare, and note that there is currently a large city-wide infrastructure project going on around the Opera house which can affect ease of access to the house and availability of parking.

What should I wear?
That’s completely up to you – we have no dress code at the Göteborg Opera.
Of course, many people arrive at premieres more dressed-up than usual, but it’s up to your own preference. Just wear what you feel comfortable in, so that you can sit, relax, and enjoy the performance.
However, we do ask that you help us by not using perfume, cologne or other scents. This will allow people with chemical allergies to also enjoy their visit to the Opera house!
What payment methods do you accept?
You kan pay with the usual credit and debit cards, and of course our gift cards. We have been cash-free since 1 January 2020.
How long is the intermission between acts?
Intermission lengths can vary, depending on how much of the set needs to be adjusted by our technical staff, but are usually around 25 minutes long.
Check the length of each performance on its show page – the exact length is usually updated a day or two before the premiere. After the dress rehearsal we are able to measure most accurately. Before this, estimated show lengths are approximate.
I have a hearing impairment. Do you have anything to assist me?
You can borrow infra-red hearing aids from our foyer staff. Learn more about which accessibility tools we can provide. Opera and musical performances are also usually subtitled in both Swedish and English.
Can you help me with my wheelchair?
