In October 2026, the largest-ever production of Wicked returns – the smash-hit musical that has taken the world by storm. The Göteborg Opera’s acclaimed staging swept the audience off their feet during its first run, playing to sold-out houses and seen by over 110,000 people.

The Wicked musical tells the tale of the two witches of Oz before Dorothy dropped in on them in the classic MGM musical The Wizard of Oz. Find out how Elphaba and Glinda met and became the Wicked Witch and the Good Witch respectively, and how they succeeded in defeating the tyrannical Wizard of Oz. This is a tale of social exclusion, courage and love, told with magic, fantasy and wonderful music. A number of songs from the show have been hits, including “Defying Gravity”.

Musical stars Feline Andersson and Anna Salonen return to their breakthrough roles as Elphaba, “the Wicked Witch of the West”, and Galinda, who transforms into Glinda the good.

Wicked is one of the world’s most popular musicals. The original Broadway production premiered in 2003 opened in London’s West End three years later. The Swedish premiere at the Göteborg Opera in 2023, directed by Samuel Harjanne, was (and is) the largest ever production of the musical, with an expanded orchestra, large ensemble and breathtaking scenery.

Wicked premiere postponed
The Göteborg Opera has undertaken an extensive project over summer involving the replacement of its old stage machinery. Final adjustments to the new system are taking longer than expected. This means that the first performances of the technically demanding musical Wicked, due to have its revival premiere on 3 October, need to be postponed.

Unfortunately we do not yet know how many performances of Wicked will be affected. If your performance is affected, we will contact you. Everyone who has purchased a ticket will be offered the option to re-book to another perfmance, receive a gift voucher or a refund.

Information about the new premiere date and performance schedule for Wicked will be announced at a later date.
