Sweden plays for Ukraine

From the initiative of the think tank ’Unga tankar om musik’ (Young Minds For Music), the Göteborg Opera Orchestra join with many other Swedish orchestras to show support for the Ukrainian people.

The Ukrainian song that the orchestras have recorded is called ”Ridna Maty Moja” or ”Dearest Mother of Mine”. It is about a mother saying farewell to her son – she gives him an embroidered cloth to remind him of her love and of the best moments in life.

“At a time when millions of people are suffering terribly in war, it is extra-important to show the power of cross-border cooperation. We are pleased and proud to be able to participate in this important collective demonstration of support for Ukraine. Together we are strongest,” says Henning Ruhe, Artistic Director Opera/drama, and Andreas Lönnqvist, Orchestra Manager at the Göteborg Opera.

Participating orchestras:

Gävle Symfoniorkester, Göteborgs Symfoniker, GöteborgsOperans Orkester, Helsingborgs Symfoniorkester, Kungl. Filharmonikerna, Kungliga Hovkapellet – Kungliga Operan, Malmö Operaorkester, Musica Vitae, Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester
