Mats Persson, baritone, is part of the Göteborg Opera soloist ensemble and has performed a series of major roles in the field of classic/romantic and contemporary music drama such as the title roles in Macbeth and Rigoletto, Donner in the Rheingold (Das Rheingold), Tonio in Pagliacci, Ruggiero in La Juive, Orestes in Electra, Escamillo in Carmen, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Fritz Kothner in the Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Mr Redburn in Billy Budd, Don Alfonso in Lucrezia Borgia, Joachannan in Salome, Lorentzo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi. Further roles include Paolo in Simon Boccanegra, Truelove in The Rake’s Progress, Doktor Anderson in Notorious, the Speaker of the Temple in Die Zauberflöte, Shchelkalov in Boris Godunov, Uberto in Kärlek på lur, the Priest in Kronbruden, the Music Teacher in Ariadne auf Naxos, Gunnar in Sömnkliniken, Godoy in Goya, Björn in Vikingarna and Sir Archie in Herr Arnes penningar.

Mats Persson has also sung the title role in The King of Fools at the Vadstena Academy which won him the Broocman Prize in 1996.
