We welcome the autumn season with sumptuous music by Hugo Alfvén, whose 150th birthday is celebrated in 2022, and Jean Sibelius. The programme includes Alfvén’s Svit ur Bergakungen (Suite from The Mountain King) and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5.

Swedish Hugo Alfvén and Finnish Jean Sibelius are among the leading Nordic romantic composers.

The concert Nordiska klanger (Nordic Soundscapes) opens with Alfvén’s colourful and enchanting Svit ur Bergakungen (a work created in collaboration with John Bauer) and ends with Sibelius’s popular Symphony No. 5, whose triumphant finale was inspired by 16 flying swans.

Between these two masterful works, we’ll enjoy art songs by both composers including Alfvén’s En båt med blommor (A boat with flowers) – a rarely performed gem. The soloists are soprano Ida Falk Winland and baritone Mats Persson.

Nordiska klanger is conducted by Norwegian Tabita Berglund, who has emerged as one of today’s most talented young conductors.
