Clara Svärd

Director

Clara Svärd is a director, choreographer and movement educator active in opera. She studied choreography at Roehampton University in London and physical theater training for opera singers at the Netherlands Opera Academy. In recent years, she has directed for the Vadstena Academy, including Telemann's Orpheus 2019 and Il colore fa la regina 2022, for Malmö Opera Det Stora Oväsendet 2022 and Ceciliavesper for the Confidencen Opera&Music Festival. The current season she is directing Pride and Prejudice by Daniel Nelson and Sofia Fredén at Norrlandsoperan and La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina by Francesca Caccini for Den Andra Operan. As a choreographer in opera, she has mainly worked with the directors Elisabeth Linton (among others at the Gothenburg Opera, Den Jyske Opera and Det Kongelige Teater in Copenhagen) and Nils Spangenberg (at the Vadstena Academy). Clara teaches opera students movement training at Stockholm Opera Studio (formerly Opera Studio 67) and the Academy of Opera in Stockholm, among others. Clara Svärd has directed countless student productions and stage choral works.
