Kerstin Perski

Librettist

Kerstin Perski is a playwright, librettist, author and freelance dramaturg both in Sweden and internationally. She has written librettos for fifteen new Swedish and Danish operas, several of them award-winning. Her opera librettos include Vargen kommer (The Wolf Comes), Notorious, Skriftestolen (The Writing Chair), Brothers and Zebran (the Zebra). Most recently, she was involved with the libretto for the opera Strandad, music by Karin Rehnqvist, which premiered at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm in November 2022. In December 2022, the novel Nätternas och dagarnas bok was published by Virens publishing house. Among her plays can be mentioned Dream Business at the Orion Theater in 2013, Vi faller inte! (We do not fall!) which was staged at the Jewish theater in Stockholm in 2004, Name: Spielrein Sabina which premiered at Stockholms Stadsteater in 2005 and Charlotte Löwensköld, based on Selma Lagerlöf's wensköldska ringen, which premiered at Stockholms Stadsteater in 2008.

Kerstin Perski has also written modernized Swedish texts for classical music-dramatic works such as The Merry Widow and Die Entführung aus dem Serail. In 2020, Kerstin Perski received her doctorate in artistic research at the Stockholm University of the Arts with the thesis The poetics of enlivening: Searching for the music drama Borderlands and the transformation of the drama through text, vocal and instrumental acting.
