Jesper Taube has had a long career as a soloist at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. During his first twelve years with the opera company, he established himself as a lyric baritone in roles such as Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Eugene Onegin, Rigoletto, Prince Yeletsky in The Queen of Spades, Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Posa in Don Carlos, Ford in Falstaff, Marcello in La bohème, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte.
After changing to tenor, he has sung at the Royal Swedish Opera, among others, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Calaf in Turandot, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Don José in Carmen, Laca in Jenůfa, Edrisi in King Roger and Herodes in Strauss' Salome. He has also sung the title role in Les contes d'Hoffmann at Folkoperan.
In the 2024–2025 season, Jesper sang Laca in Jenůfa and Beadle in Sweeney Todd at the Royal Swedish Opera. He also appeared in The Vow and Ariadne auf Naxos.
He has also appeared on stages around Sweden and made guest appearances in Scandinavia, the rest of Europe and the USA. These include Valentin in Faust, Silvio in Pajazzo, Don Alvaro in Il viaggio a Reims, the title role in the opera Wallenberg in Tallinn and Majestät in Erik XIV in Turku. He has also been a recurring soloist at the Södertälje Opera in productions such as Ernani, Glada änkan, Viva Verdi, Canta Napoli, Beatrice di Tenda and Attila.
Jesper trained at the Stockholm Academy of Opera. He has been awarded several scholarships, including the Christina Nilsson scholarship (1997 and 1998), a scholarship from the Friends of Drottningholm Palace Theatre (1997), Henning Sjöström's singing scholarship (1997), Carl-Axel Hallgren's scholarship (1998) and the Jussi Björling scholarship (2009).
