Tobias Ringborg, conductor
has established himself on the concert podium and in the opera house, as conductor, soloist and chamber musician. His career began in 1994 when he won the prestigious Soloist Prize in Sweden. That same year, he graduated from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and completed his violin studies at the Juilliard School in New York.
Ringborg has performed with all Swedish and several Scandinavian orchestras, often as both soloist and conductor, and has recorded more than twenty CDs. He made his operatic debut in 2001 at Folkoperan in Stockholm, and has since been closely associated with the Royal Swedish Opera. He has also conducted productions at, among others, Malmö Opera, the Norwegian National Opera, the Danish National Opera and Oper Leipzig. In 2005, he made his London debut with the English Chamber Orchestra at the Barbican.
In recent seasons, Ringborg has conducted La Bohème, Turandot, Fedora, Larsson Gothe’s Löftet, and Il barbiere di Siviglia and Le nozze di Figaro at the Royal Swedish Opera; Turandot, L’elisir d’amore and Madama Butterfly at the Gothenburg Opera; Le comte Ory and Aniara in Malmö; Turandot at Dalhalla; Il barbiere di Siviglia, Orphée aux enfers and Così fan tutte in Oslo; I Puritani at the Danish National Opera; Così fan tutte, Rigoletto, Il trovatore, Le nozze di Figaro and The Magic Flute at Scottish Opera; La Bohème, Don Giovanni, Macbeth, L’elisir d’amore, Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci at Opera North; Don Giovanni at Welsh National Opera; Idomeneo and Così fan tutte at Garsington Opera; Madama Butterfly, Tosca and La Bohème at New Zealand Opera; Lucia di Lammermoor at Wellington Opera; Madama Butterfly and Le nozze di Figaro in Adelaide; and La rondine with Victorian Opera in Melbourne. He has also appeared in concert with, among others, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the orchestras of Wuppertal, Aalborg, Auckland and Victoria (Canada).
In November 2022, he conducted the world premiere of Sven-David Sandström’s large-scale opera The Book of Life in Norrköping, and in May 2025, Moses Pergament’s oratorio The Jewish Song at Stockholm Concert Hall.
In 2010, Tobias Ringborg was awarded the Herbert Blomstedt Conducting Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, of which he has been a member since 2011.
