Anelia Kadieva Jonsson trained as a director at Rose Bruford College in London and has been active in the opera industry for over 25 years, both in Sweden and at several of Europe’s leading opera houses. She has worked at ENO, Bayerische Staatsoper, the Mariinsky Theatre and Teatro di San Carlo where she collaborated with some of the world’s leading opera directors.
As a librettist, she made her breakthrough in 2016 with the family opera Snödrottningen (The Snow Queen), which was performed at Malmö Opera, Theater Vorpommern in Stralsund and the Royal Opera in Stockholm.
Kadieva Jonsson is a frequently hired MC, presenter and moderator, including at the Birgit Nilsson Festival, where she also directed Tosca in 2023.
In addition to her directing and dramaturgical work, she also writes scripts and acts.
She has also been the host of Klassisk förmiddag on Swedish Radio P2 and the question editor and casting manager for SVT's Kontrapunkt.
Kadieva Jonsson speaks six languages fluently and has worked with both libretto translation and as an interpreter in opera productions.
