Imre & Marne van Opstal

After their individual careers as dancers, the siblings Imre and Marne van Opstal have become increasingly recognised as a choreographic duo with a powerful physical language. Their creation for Bare State will be the third piece they will have made for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, following To Kingdom Come (2022) and Atlas Song (2024) with musician Anna von Hausswolff.

Their international profile has since grown rapidly – they recently created an acclaimed piece for the Paris Opera Ballet and choreography for the House of Dior.

Bobbi Jene Smith & Or Schraiber

When choreographers Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber created I Cannot Love Without Trembling for the dance company a few years ago, the response was emphatic, described as “extraordinarily beautiful and moving” (Svenska Dagbladet) and “brilliant” (Dagens Nyheter). The music for that piece was performed live by the Göteborg Opera Orchestra. Musicians will also contribute to this new piece. Bobbi Jene reached a wider audience through the award-winning documentary Bobbi Jene (2017) and together with Or, she has created works for institutions including the Paris Opera and the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen.
