The dance evening 'Past the Point' features two new works created for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani: one by Botis Seva, who has merged hip-hop and contemporary dance styles into his own unique expression; and one by Marcos Morau, named Choreographer of the Year by Tanz magazine in 2023 and 2025.
Cold Song
Creation by Marcos Morau
Spanish choreographer and multidisciplinary artist Marcos Morau often creates wild, entertaining works infused with absurd humour – and this new creation is no exception. The title Cold song refers to the music, which is based on an aria from Henry Purcell’s opera King Arthur. In the creation, the dancers take on different characters, while the set consists of a mysterious box that hides all kinds of fantastical contraptions. Both the dancers and the scenography undergo transformations as Cold song carries us across the boundary between reality and theatrical magic. Even before its world premiere, Cold song has been booked by several European touring venues. When Marcos Morau last visited Gothenburg in 2017, he created the visually striking and acclaimed work Rothko Chapel.
Music in Cold Song
Original music by Ben Meerwein & Alex Röser Vatiché, inspired by Henry Purcell’s “Cold Song”.
Original recording “What power art thou? (Cold song)” from King Arthur, or The British Worthy (1691), Act 3.
