Opera and musicals

Pre-premiere panel discussions

Before opera and main musical premieres we present a panel discussion on the Small Stage.

Listen to the creative team and artists, and the occasional guest expert discuss the piece, its themes and the creative process behind the production. The panel moderator is Göteborg Opera’s dramaturge Göran Gademan. Some discussions are held in English, or a mix of Swedish and English.

Discussions run for around 1 h 15 mins. Admission is free, but you must book a ticket to reserve a seat.

See the relevant performance page for more information about upcoming panel discussions.

Opera introductions

45 miunutes prior to each Main Stage opera (exception the premiere), we offer a 20 minute introduction to the evening’s performance, presented on the Small Stage. Introductions are popular, so come in time, since there is limited seating.

Introductions are free to attend – your ticket is enough for entry. Please note that introductions are presented in Swedish.

Dance

Open rehearsals

A couple of weeks before GöteborgsOperans Danskompani presents a new world premiere on the Main Stage, we sometimes offer an open rehearsal on the Main Stage, where you can experience the dancers rehearsing pieces in the process of coming together, working with the choreographers. Afterwards, hear them talk about the process and their thoughts behind each piece. Information about upcoming open rehearsals are on each performance page.

Free admission, but seats must be booked in advance.

Introductions

Verbal introductions

45 miunutes before each Main Stage dance performance (except the premiere), you can attend a 20 minute introduction, presented on the Small Stage. They are popular, so don't be late, because they fill up quickly! They are free to attend as long as you have a ticket to the evening’s performance.

Please note that introductions are presented in Swedish.

Physical introductions

Learn more and gain deeper insight into the language of dance!

At GöteborgsOperans Danskompani’s physical introductions we’ll help you to gain a better understanding of the performance you are going to see. We test different choreographic methods and movements, which you’ll recognise later on stage, so you’ll gain a more physical, personal connection to the performance.

En grupp äldre och yngre vuxna rör sig tätt tillsammans med armarna höjda, några med ryggarna lutade mot varandra.

Physical introductions are led by dancers from GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and are built around participation. Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended, but not essential.

Free admission with a ticket, limited places available. We meet in the foyer, 10 minutes before the start time.

See the relevant performance page for details.

The format is created and practiced by the MA Contemporary Dance Education (MA CoDE) at Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main. With the aim to remain in close collaboration and to foster further development of the format it is handed over by Prof. Ingo Diehl and Anja Bornsek for facilitation purposes to GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.
