Ilaria Lanzino

Director

Ilaria Lanzino works as an opera director, teacher and librettist at numerous institutions, theatres and opera houses in Europe. She was born in Pisa, Italy. She gained her first theatrical experience as a singer, assistant director and apprentice at major theatres and institutions, including the Theater an der Wien, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, the Theater Dortmund and the Aalto-Theater in Essen. In these contexts, she collaborated with directors such as Christof Loy, Benedikt von Peter, Jens-Daniel Herzog, Elisabeth Stöppler, David Bösch, Dietrich Hilsdorf, Axel Köhler and Michael Thalheimer. Before embarking on her freelance career, she was a permanent assistant director in Düsseldorf.

Her productions have been nominated and awarded internationally, including the International Opera Awards (Jawnuta, winner; Mary, Queen of Scots, nomination), the YAM Award and the European Opera Prize. The productions Mary, Queen of Scots, La Cenerentola, Hamlet, La Resurrezione and Nabucco received special mentions in the annual reviews of magazines and newspapers such as Opernwelt, Die Kleine Zeitung, WAZ and ArtPost.

Ilaria currently teaches Dramaturgy at the University of Music in Würzburg.
