Set and costume designer

takis is an international performance designer based in London, whose innovative and diverse body of work encompasses West End and leading UK Theatre Productions, Major International Musicals, Opera, Ballet, Circus, Fashion and Commercial productions. Architecturally he has designed the new Opera Holland Park Theatre.

He has been commissioned by such companies as: Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Finnish National Opera, Norwegian National Opera, Frankfurt Opera House, Gothenburg Opera House, St Gallen Opera Festival, Opera Holland Park, Old Vic as well as major international theatres and venues.

takis has designed the first non-replica production of Moulin Rouge across all Scandinavia, with Stockholm, Oslo & Copenhagen opening simultaneously in August 2023.

His work has been exhibited at the Design Museums in London and Helsinki, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Bucharest Modern Art Museum.

Commercially he has Art Directed/Designed the world’s first drive through immersive car launch for the Toyota C-HR starring Milla Jovovich and Centrepoint’s 50th Anniversary Gala at the Round House with Rita Ora and Duran Duran.

2022 Olivier Award Nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Opera for set and costume design of HMS Pinafore for English National Opera. Other Olivier winning and nominated West End credits include: In The Heights, Five Guys Named Moe, The Toxic Avenger and Phaedra at the Royal Opera House. Iolanta, Il Segretto di Susanna and Isabeau for the International Opera Awards and multiple nominations for What’s on Stage, Off West End and Broadway World awards.

takis holds a PhD from Aalto University, Helsinki, where he developed the concept of the META-SUIT: an interchangeable costume where the form and design adjust in order to perform different expressions of masculinity in everyday life. Originally studied Costume and Set Design at the Romanian National University of Arts in Bucharest and RADA on the Theatre Technical Arts Course. Followed by practice-based research at London College of Fashion.
