Your visit

That’s completely up to you – we have no dress code at the Göteborg Opera. 

Of course, many people arrive at premieres more dressed-up than usual, but it’s up to your own preference. Just wear what you feel comfortable in, so that you can sit, relax, and enjoy the performance.  

However, we do ask that you help us by not using perfume, cologne or other scents. This will allow people with chemical allergies to also enjoy their visit to the Opera house!

Please note that there are large city infrastructure projects occuring near the opera house which affects both traffic and parking. We advise planning for a longer journey than expected. Learn more about how these projects can affect access.

If you are not going to collect your ticket here in the box office (where sometimes there is a queue), you may arrive about 30 minutes before the performance begins. But we invite you to arrive earlier to have time to unwind, enjoy the buzz in our foyer, or perhaps have something tasty to eat or drink.

Introductions
We offer introductions to our opera and dance performances (presented in Swedish) which begin 1 hour before performances begin, and are free if you have a ticket. We also offer a video introduction on the show page (for most performances on the Main Stage).

When the performance has begun, the doors are closed and you are not allowed to enter until the next break in the performance.

So make sure you leave for the Opera house with time to spare, and note that there are large city-wide infrastructure projects going on around the Opera house, which affect both traffic and parking.

There is bicycle parking near the main entrance – beside the marina to the right of the opera house (if you are facing the harbour).

Our wardrobes/cloakrooms have limited space, so we can't guarantee that we have space to take larger bags. We request that you leave larger bags at home.

You kan pay with common credit and debit cards, and of course our gift cards. The house has been cash-free since 1 January 2020.

In addition to the information available here on opera.se, there are several ways to learn more about a production—its themes, history, and the process behind staging it.

You can purchase a performance programme in the foyer, attend a panel discussion with the team and artists (held about 1 week before opera and musical premieres), or go to an introduction on the Small Stage 45 minutes before your opera, dance, or musical performance begins (no introductions for premieres). Learn more about panel discussions and introductions

You are more than welcome to show your tickets using your mobile phone – just don't forget to charge the battery!

You can borrow infra-red hearing aids from our foyer staff. Learn more about which accessibility tools we can provide. Opera and musical performances are also usually subtitled in both Swedish and English.

For safety reasons, all guests who have not purchased a wheelchair space must be able to get in and out of the auditorium themselves.

If you use a mobility aid, please inform an usher who will accompany to your row and take care of your mobility aid for you.

You are welcome to use your mobility aid to get to your row of seats. After that, you will need to be able to get to your seat without your mobility aid. Our ushers will take care of your mobility aid, which may not remain with you in the auditorium since loose objects can pose a risk for other guests. At the interval and the end of the performance, an usher will return your mobility aid to you.

Guide dogs, service dogs and signal dogs can accompany you into the auditorium and stay with you if you require. Let the box office staff know that you have an assistance dog when you book your ticket, by calling tel. +46 31 131 300.

Once you arrive, contact our foyer staff and we will be happy to assist you. We have specially adapted places for wheelchair users in the stalls at row 22. These places can only be booked via our box office, which you can contact on +46 31 131 300 or biljetter@opera.se.

Leave flowers or greeting cards at our staff entrance, which is at the western short end of the house, opposite from the main entrance – towards Maritima centrum and Kajskjul 8. Label the flowers with your name, the person you are sending them to, and (since we have a lot of parallel performances) which production they are performing in. We'll make sure that they get to the right person.
