About the role
The Opera’s Chorus consists of 42 professional singers and perform in most of our productions as well as concerts. We consider stagecraft and movement to be important elements of the Chorus’ work.
For some productions we need extra singers in the Chorus. We will hold an audition for local singers of all voice types on 22 March 2026. Qualifying singers may be employed as needed on production contracts, with location in Gothenburg, in accordance with our union agreement with SYMF (Swedish Professional Musician’s Union).
For the upcoming two seasons we predict that extra chorus singers will be needed for 1–2 productions.
Requirements
- Completed education at university level in Music, Opera or equivalent.
- Our working languages are Swedish and English.
- Professional stage experience is considered merit.
Audition, 22 March 2026
The audition will take place on Sunday 22 March 2026. If you are selected you will receive detailed information about the audition procedure by 12 March 2026 at the latest.
Prepare the following for the audition:
- An opera aria of your choice, no longer than 5 minutes to be performed by heart. Please note, there will be no rehearsal with the pianist. You may also receive a simple instruction to carry out while performing the aria.
- A short chorus excerpt, which will be sent with the invitation to the audition. You will sing your part (preferably by heart) together with the pianist.
The result of your audition will be decided by a jury consisting of the Chorus Master, representatives from the Chorus management and the Chorus itself.
