Prepare for the visit
In our experience, an audience that is prepared gets more out of the performance. This also applies to schoolchildren.
Two weeks before the visit, we’ll send a teacher's guide (in Swedish) about the production. Feel free to use it as support in your preparation work.
The most important thing is that the students know what they are going to see, what genre it is, how long the performance is and whether there is an intermission. You and the students also need to know the code of conduct that we list below.
Arrive on time
Arrive no later than 15 minutes before the performance starts. This will give you time to leave outer clothing in the cloakroom and find your seats in the auditorium.
Bags and outerwear
Leave bags and outerwear in our cloakrooms. It is free of charge. You may take a handbag with you into the auditorium. Aisles between seats are narrow, so jackets and bags create a hazard in an emergency.
Food and drinks
Sweets, food or drinks are not allowed to into the auditorium. However, you are welcome to eat your own food and drinks in the foyer before or after the performance.
Spread out in the hall
Teachers should sit in the middle of their students in the hall – this creates calm and you can answer questions. If there are several teachers, spread out.
What about mobile phones?
You may not take photos, film or record sound during the performance.
Mobile phones must be turned off. The light from the screens disturbs others in the audience and the artists on stage. However, you are welcome to take photos and film the applause.
Reactions
We like to get audience reactions to our performances. We are used to applause, exclamations, comments, laughter and tears. At the same time, ensure that everyone has a good experience – both the audience and the artists on stage. If students’ reactions are too disruptive to others, our staff will take action. We assume that you as a teacher will assist with this.
Leaving during a performance
We prefer that no one leaves their seat during a performance, but we also know that there may be reasons why you sometimes have to. If you know that you or a student will need to leave the hall during the performance, talk to our ushers before you enter the hall.
Interval
The interval usually lasts about 30 minutes. A few minutes before the performance starts again, an announcement will be made over the loudspeakers that it is time to your seats. When there are five minutes left in the interval, the ushers will ring a bell. When the performance starts, the doors to the hall are closed.
Accessibility
Detailed information regarding accessibility can be found here. If you want to prepare yourself for the physical environment of the GöteborgsOperan, there are pictures and information in the Accessibility Database.
If you have any questions or requests regarding accessibility, you are most welcome to contact us – either via your contact person or as described below.
How to get here
At the moment there are ongoing infrastructural projects in the area that affect traffic access and may affect travel times and accessibility by foot. Leave with time to spare!
The Operan bus stop is beside the main entrance, and within a short distance is the Lilla Bommen bus and tram stop. Älvsnabben also has a stop near us at Stenpiren. Both Nils Ericsson's bus terminal and Central Station are about 10 minutes' walk away.
Contact
If you as a teacher need more information about our performances or how a visit is organised, you are most welcome to get in touch – we are happy to help. Email us at gruppbiljetter@opera.se or call 031-13 13 00.
