About the Opera

About the Chorus

The Gothenburg Opera Chorus consists of 42 singers and is one of Sweden’s three professional opera choruses. The chorus performs in most opera productions on the Main Stage, as well as in concerts, smaller ensembles, and musicals. Chorus members occasionally perform solo roles as well. Great emphasis is placed on dramatic and stage performance as part of the chorus’s work.

About the position

We are seeking a Soprano 2 for the Opera Chorus, a full lyric soprano with a well-developed lower and middle register. This is a permanent position, with an initial probationary year, commencing in July 2027.

To apply for this position, you must have completed higher education at an opera academy, music conservatory, or equivalent institution by the start of employment. Our working languages are Swedish and English. Stage experience in music theatre is considered an advantage. In your application, attach a YouTube link with a video recording of yourself performing relevant repertoire. The video recording must have been made on or after 1 September, 2025.

Auditions

Auditions will take place on 2 & 3 November 2026 by personal invitation only.

The audition process consists of two rounds per day. Each day after Round 1, candidates will be informed whether they will proceed to Round 2.

Further information regarding the audition format will be sent to invited candidates no later than 15 October 2026.

For the audition, candidates should prepare:

Round 1

  • One compulsory aria from the list below.
  • One choral excerpt, which will be sent with the invitation.

Round 2

  • A second aria of your choice, in a different language from the aria performed in Round 1.
  • Two choral excerpts to be performed as an ensemble audition.

At the end of each audition day, all candidates who advance to Round 2 will participate in a 30-minute stage-direction/movement audition.

  • Peter Grimes: Ellen – ”Embroidery in childhood”
  • Pique Dame: Lisa – ”Ach, istomilas’ ja gorem”
  • Rusalka: Rusalka – “Měsíčku na nebi hlubokém”
