Ville Matvejeff

Conductor

Born 1986 in Finland, Ville Matvejeff is a conductor and an exceptionally wide-ranging musician. He is also a composer and a pianist. Trained at the Sibelius Academy (M.Mus,), Matvejeff currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Savonlinna Opera Festival (2019-) and Chief Conductor of Jyväskylä Sinfonia (2014-) and first guest conductor and program director for the Norrland Opera Symphony Orchestra (2022-).

Alongside his position as the Principal Guest Conductor of Croatian National Theatre HNK Zajc in Rijeka (2014-2020), Matvejeff has recently conducted e.g. the Swedish RSO, Duisburger Philharmoniker, Ulster Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and Norrlandsoperan. Debuts this season include GöteborgsOperan. In Finland he is a regular guest in the orchestras countrywide. Matvejeff has previously held positions at the Malmö Opera and the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and regularly assisted Esa-Pekka Salonen and Leif Segerstam. 

As a pianist he has toured the world in recital partnership with Karita Mattila, and as a composer, he has received commissions from the Finnish Chamber Orchestra and the Finnish RSO, which premiered his Violin Concerto at the inauguration of the Helsinki Music Centre in 2011. His works have been recorded for Alba label. 

At Göteborg Opera Ville Matvejeff has previously conducted The Barber of Seville.
