A sublime experience awaits when the Göteborg Opera performs Puccini’s choral mass in Gothenburg Cathedral.

The Messa di Gloria by opera master Puccini is a dazzling choral work bursting with vitality. After being rediscovered in the 1950s, it has enjoyed immense popularity worldwide, especially at Easter.

Puccini created some of our best-loved operas such as Tosca, La bohème, Turandot and Madama Butterfly. This early work pays homage to his family’s long tradition of church music.

The mass will be performed at Gothenburg Cathedral with Göteborg Opera soloists Tomas Lind, tenor and Mats Persson, baritone, together with the Göteborg Opera Chorus and Orchestra. The conductor at Gothenburg Cathedral will be Italian-born Jonathan Brandani, Artistic Director of Calgary Opera and a specialist in Italian opera.

The concert will open with James MacMillan’s captivating Larghetto.
