Andreas Kriegenburg

Director

Andreas Kriegenburg, born 1963 in Magdeburg in East Germany, began 1980 apprenticeship as a carpenter and in 1982 started working as a theatre’s carpenter - and later as an assistant director. In 1984, at the age of 21, Andreas did his first directing and has since continued directing in various European cities, such as Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, Zurich, Frankfurt am Main, Madrid, Warsaw, Prague and others and over the world in different in cities such as Moscow, Seoul, Taipei, México-City, Rio de Janeiro, Bogota, São Paulo, Istanbul and many others. Since 2006 he works continuously at various opera houses around the world, such as Munich State Opera (Wozzeck, Ring des Nibelungen, Die Soldaten, Snow Queen UA), Tokyo Opera (Wozzeck, Rigoletto), Salzburg (Lady Macbeth de Mtsensk, Simon Boccanegra) Frankfurt/Main Opera (Tosca),  Semperoper Dresden (Cosi fan tutte, Don Giovanni) Oper Barcelona (Othello) and Hamburg State Opera (Frau ohne Schatten). Andreas Kriegenburg has received numerous awards for his work in Germany and Austria, and his production of Bernd Alois Zimmermann's opera Die Soldaten at Bavarian State Opera was voted Production of the Year 2014.
