Jacopo Spirei

Director

Jacopo Spirei, from Florence Italy, studied arts and drama in Bologna and filmmaking at the New York Film Academy. Jacopo Spirei’s experience in opera stage direction include works all over the world among them Carmen for Macerata Opera Festival, Ermione at Teatro San Carlo Naples, Don Giovanni at San Francisco Opera, Falstaff and L’elisir d’amore at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, La Donna del lago at Buxton Festival, Don Giovanni, Così Fan Tutte, Nozze di Figaro, Brokeback Mountain, Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny and Pilger von Mekka at Salzburger Landestheater and the chamber opera Cambiale di Matrimonio at Theater an der Wien. He has directed Falstaff at Festival Verdi in Parma, Nabucco at Festival Como Cittá della Musica, The Bear, Maderna’s Satyricon and Matrimonio Segreto at Royal Danish Opera, La Cenerentola at Festival Internacional de Música, Cartagena, Colombia, Pagliacci for Wexford Festival Opera and a double bill of Bastiano e Bastiana and La Serva Padrona at Lugo Opera Festival, Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

Spirei is professor for Opera at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts KhiO. He has also worked with young singers of the Accademia della Scala, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Opera Academy Copenhagen.
