Sebastian Ritschel is General Director and Artistic Director of Opera at Staatstheater Regensburg. As a stage director and set designer, he has been responsible for more than 60 productions across opera, operetta and musical theatre, with a particular focus on world and national premieres as well as rediscoveries of rarely performed repertoire.
Ritschel’s awards include the BR-Klassik Operettenfrosch and the Craig Simmons Award from the German Musical Academy for his work in musical theatre. Several of his productions have also received Blickpunkt Musical Awards, including Come From Away, which was named Best German-Language Premiere.
Since the 2022/23 season, he has led Theater Regensburg, which was granted Staatstheater status in 2026. The same year, the theatre was named Opera House of the Year at the OPER! Awards.
