Theodora Varga studied at the Academy of Music in Timișoara, Romania, and holds a bachelor’s degree from the conservatory in Enschede. She subsequently pursued advanced studies in opera and concert singing at the Messiaen Academy in the Netherlands. Varga studied voice with Brigitte Fassbaender and has also taken part in masterclasses with Thomas Hampson.
Since 2010, Varga has been a permanent soloist at Staatstheater Regensburg, where her voice has gradually developed towards the dramatic and spinto soprano repertoire. Her role debuts include the title roles in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos and Dvořák’s Rusalka, Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth, and Cio-Cio-San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
Her repertoire also includes Violetta Valéry in La traviata, Desdemona in Otello, Agathe in Der Freischütz, and Liù in Turandot. From 2006 to 2009, Varga was a member of the ensemble at Theater Koblenz.
Varga regularly appears as a guest at opera houses across Europe, with engagements including Saarbrücken, Innsbruck, and Staatsoper Hamburg.
