Born in Brussels in 1967, Thibault Vancraenenbroeck received his training in Florence.
He mostly designs set and costumes for modern dance, theater and opera. He colaborate with directors and choreographers as Frederick Dussenne, Enzo Pezzella, Pierre Droulers, Olga de Soto, Barbara Manzetti, Sébastien Chollet, Didier Payen, Isabelle Marcelin, Nathalie Mauger, Pascale Binnert, Yves Beaunesne, Sybille Cornet, Sofie Kokaj, Marc Liebens, Anna van Bree, Cindy Van Acker Andrea Novicov. Alexis Moati. Françoise Berlanger. Jorge Leon. Carole Errante.
Since 1996, he began a collaboration with Stéphane Braunschweig realizing the costumes for numerous plays and operas which include Janácek's Jenufa at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris and La Scala in Milan, Rigoletto Verdi at La Monnaie in Brussels, Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, a show back on tour across Europe, The Makropulos Case Janacek, always in Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and then in Brussels, Strauss' Elektra at the Opera du Rhin in Strasbourg, Brussels and Rouen, Berg's Wozzeck at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and Lisbon, and Verdi's Don Carlo La Scala in Milan. In 2006, he designed the costumes of Wagner's Ring at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg Easter Festival. More recently, still staging of Stéphane Braunschweig, he has designed costumes for Don Giovanni (Mozart) Théâtre des champs Élysées. Magic Flute (Mozart) at Folkoperan Stockholm. Iolanta (Tchaikovski) Bordeaux Opera.
Since 2000 he is a regular collaborator of Maya Bösh for stage and costumes on various experimental performing plays, film and exibitions.
Other opera works are the Seven deadly sins and Lindberg’s flight (Weil / Brecht). And Emilie (K.Saariaho) and Parsifal (R. Wagner). Four productions staged by François Girard in the Lyon Opera. In 2011, he started a collaboration with Rolando Villazon as stage director. He designed the costumes for Werther (Massenet) in Lyon, and L’Elisir d’Amore in Baden Baden. He was designing costumes for Dialogue des Carmélites (Poulenc) Lyon Opera. Pelléas et Mélisande (Debussy) Lyon Opera and Cos Fan Tutte (Mozart) Festival d’Aix en Provence. All three stages by Christophe Honoré. Il Trovatore (Verdi) Lille Opera. Rigoletto (Verdi) Nancy Opera. Wozzeck (Alban Berg) Lyon Opera and Royal Stockholm Opera with Richard Brunel.
With Grégoire Pont and James Bonas, he has designed stage and costumes for L’enfant et les sortilèges and L’heure Espagnole (Ravel) Der Mond (Carl Orff) for Lyon Opéra. Snow Queen (Abrahamsen) Strasburg opera house. Candide (Bernstein) Welsh National Opera. With James Bonas he designed stage and costumes for L’étoile (Chabrier) Sao Carlo Opera Lisbon. Ariadne auf Naxos (Schtraus) Magdeburg Opera. For Yosh Oida he designed Madame Butterfly (Puccini) Goteborg Opera. War requiem (britten) Lyon Opera.
Parallel to his stage activities, he also designed two video installations based on texts by Maurice Blanchot and leads a photography project in collaboration with Gregoire Romefort. Since 2001, he leads master classes at the School of National Theatre of Strasbourg and Antwerp Royal Accademy of Arts . He was awarded for the best costume design at the Molère ceremony for « Tartuffe » staged by Stéphane Braunschweig.
