Alessia Ruffolo is a choreographer, actor, dancer and creative artist based in Berlin. Born in Canada, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University (USA), and subsequently pursued further training in acting and film at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and the New York Film Academy.
From 2016 to 2021, she was a full-time ensemble member of the dance company at Staatstheater Kassel under the direction of Faust Award-nominated choreographer Johannes Wieland. She currently works as a co-director and choreographer with theatre directors Philipp Rosendahl, Alexander Nerlich and Ulrich Greb. These collaborations have taken her to major venues including the Göteborg Opera, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Staatstheater Mainz, Stadttheater Ingolstadt, Schlosstheater Moers and Staatstheater Cottbus. Her recent production Alice, which she co-directed and choreographed, was named one of the Top 10 productions by the Nachtkritik Theatertreffen.
In addition to her theatre work, Ruffolo has collaborated with artists such as Maxine Doyle (Punchdrunk), Lenka Vagnerová, Kristian Lever, Dani Vitale, Thar Be Dragons, Tom Weinberger, Helder Seabra and Luke Murphy. Her choreographic work has been presented at festivals and theatres across Germany, Italy, Austria, Denmark and the United States – including the Teatri Riflessi Short Play Festival, the University of Michigan, the 34th International Choreographic Competition Hannover, CAOS Stalker Teatro and the 15th Copenhagen Choreography Competition. Her screen dance works have been featured at numerous international film festivals, and in 2021 she received the Most Daring Film award at the Dare2Dance in Public Film Festival.
