Tanja Hofmann

Costume designer

Tanja Hofmann works as a freelance costume and stage designer. Already during her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz/ Austria, she assisted at the Bayreuth Richard Wagner festival for a number of years. This was followed by permanent positions as an assistant at the Berliner Ensemble and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Especially since the beginning of her freelance work in 2003, she designed stages and costumes for many theatres in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, Japan and Cuba. She has worked with different directors for many years, in particular with Helen Malkowsky, Maximilian von Mayenburg, Andreas Baesler and with Georg Schmiedleitner, whose production of Madernas Satyricon 2018 was performed at the Salzburg Easter Festival, at the Semperoper Dresden and in Modena. Works with Andreas Kriegenburg were Tosca at Frankfurt Opera, Don Giovanni at Semperoper Dresden, Rigoletto at New National Theater in Tokyo, Lady Macbeth of Mzensk at the 2017 Salzburg Festival, Les Huguenots at Opera National de Paris and Babylon at State Opera in Berlin. Lately Kriegenburg and Hofmann realized Simon Boccanegra at the Salzburg Festival 2019 together.
