Come and celebrate the world of culture at The Göteborg Opera during the Gothenburg Culture Festival on 1–3 September.

Artists from the Göteborg Opera will be on the programme when the whole city explodes with culture. We offer a variety of performances and activities, including a musical presentation of the new season.

Rehearsals for Wicked 
Main Stage, 15:00–16:00

Pop into the dress circle for a sneak preview as the smash-hit musical Wicked is rehearsed on the Main Stage in preparation for its Swedish premiere. With musical artists and orchestra! Come and go as you please between 15:00 and 16:00. Performed in Swedish.

Music and lyrics Stephen Schwartz. Book Winnie Holzman.
Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire.
Presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International.

Why do we have televison sets on the balconies? What happens during the blackout? Can a singer without a microphone drown out an orchestra? These and many other questions will be answered on our guided tour, which will take you backstage behind the auditorium.

Rehearsal for the Sing-a-long
Main Stage, 14:00–14:45

Sing-a-long rehearsal for the family with singers from the Göteborg Opera Chorus, the Skapa Choir, and the Childrens’ and Youth Choirs! We begin with a joint rehearsal in the auditorium before the singalong concert in the foyer.

Gaga/people
Small Stage, 16:00–17:00

Try the world-famous movement language Gaga in an open class in Gaga/people. Gaga/people classes offer a framework for users to connect to their bodies and imaginations, experience physical sensations, improve their flexibility and stamina, exercise their agility and explosive power, and enjoy the pleasure of movement in a welcoming, accepting atmosphere. Gaga/people classes are open to people ages 16+, regardless of their background in dance or movement. No previous dance experience is needed.

The class will be led by Lee Brummer from ilDance.

Kalaskonsert: From Baroque to Witch Rock – magic music from a magic season
Main Stage, 18:00–19:00

Highlights from the new season plus famous works from the world of opera. With soloists Mia Karlsson, Ann-Kristin Jones, Kristian Lindroos, Daniel Ralphsson and Anna Salonen with the Göteborg Opera Orchestra conducted by Sofia Winiarski. Host: Göran Gademan, dramaturge.

Annual cultural award to the individual or group working in the Nordic region that has done most to promote herders’ music and traditional horn playing in the Nordic folk-music tradition

Piano Festival
Small Stage 12:00–15:00

An entertaining festival of the piano at which you can enjoy many different pianists and wonderful piano music, a young string quartet and dancers. The festival is divided into two parts beginning at 12:00 and 13:30 respectively.

Verdi’s Nabucco
Main Stage, 18:00–21:50

Verdi’s breakthrough, Nabucco, is about freedom, oppression and atonement. Fantastic music and magnificent choral parts – such as the "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" – frame a powerful tale of geopolitics and true love.
