The Göteborg Opera Chorus consists of 42 singers and is one of Sweden’s three professional opera choruses. The chorus performs in most opera productions on the Main Stage, in concerts, smaller ensembles and musicals. Chorus members also perform smaller solo roles on occasion. We place great emphasis on stage presence and dramatic expression in the chorus’ work.
We are seeking a tenor to join the opera chorus. This is a permanent position with an initial probationary year commencing in July 2027.
For this position, you must have completed higher education at an opera academy, music conservatory, or an equivalent institution by the start of employment. Our working languages are Swedish and English. Stage experience in music theatre is considered an advantage.
Please attach a YouTube link to a video recording of yourself performing relevant repertoire. The recording must have been made on or after 1 January 2026.
Auditions will take place on 25 January 2027 by personal invitation only. The day will begin with all candidates performing a mandatory aria and a choral excerpt. After Round 1, candidates will be selected to proceed to Round 2 later that afternoon. Round 2 consists of both musical and stage exercises, as described below.
Further information regarding the audition format will be sent to invited candidates no later than 23 December 2026.
Please prepare the following for the audition:
Round 1:
- One mandatory aria (chosen from the list below)
- One choral excerpt, which will be sent with the invitation
Round 2:
Following selection on the afternoon of 25 January.
- One additional aria of your own choice, in a different language from the aria performed in Round 1
- Two choral excerpts as an ensemble audition
- The audition concludes with a 30-minute stage movement/directing and dance assessment involving all candidates who have advanced to Round 2
